How to ask a question

This guide walks through every step of asking a question, including the two parts people ask about most: the little card-suit buttons, and how to attach a photo or screenshot. Take your time — there's no wrong way to ask, and nothing here is permanent if you make a mistake.

1. Start a new question

Click Ask a question from the Questions page. You'll see a form with a few boxes to fill in: a Title(a short summary, like “What do I bid with a weak hand and 6 spades?”), a Category to pick from a list, and a Question box where you write out the details.

Don't want to type it all out? Most phones can turn your voice into text for you — look for a small microphone icon on your keyboard, tap it, and just speak. Here are official guides for iPhone (Dictation) and Android (Voice typing).

2. Adding a suit symbol (♠ ♥ ♦ ♣)

Above the Question box are four small buttons, one for each card suit. They let you drop a suit symbol straight into your text instead of typing out the word.

← these buttons, just above the question box
  1. 1.Click inside the Question box, right where you want the symbol to show up (for example, after typing “6” if you're describing 6 spades).
  2. 2.Click the button for that suit — ♠ for spades, ♥ for hearts, ♦ for diamonds, or ♣ for clubs.
  3. 3. The symbol appears right where you clicked. You can keep typing normally afterward.

If you skip this, that's completely fine — writing “spades” or “S” instead of ♠ is just as easy to understand.

3. Attaching a photo or screenshot

Sometimes it's easier to show your hand than to describe it in words. Below the Question box there's a line that says “Attach an image (optional)”with a button next to it — it may say Choose File or Browse, depending on your computer or phone.

  1. 1. Click that button.
  2. 2. A window will open showing the pictures saved on your device. If you want a screenshot(a picture of what's on your screen) rather than a photo(taken with a camera), screenshots are usually saved in a folder called “Screenshots” or right on your “Desktop.”
  3. 3. Click on the picture you want, then click Open (or Select, or Choose— the exact word varies).
  4. 4.A small preview of your picture will appear on the page. That's how you know it worked — you don't need to do anything else with it.

This step is optional. Plenty of good questions don't need a picture at all.

4. Post your question

Once your Title, Category, and Question are filled in, click the Post questionbutton at the bottom. That's it — your question goes straight into the forum, where any expert or member can answer it.
